History

Act II founder and owner Gloria Everhart began life much like any other girl of her generation. She attended college, met her lifelong love, got married and started a family. As her family grew, Gloria loved her role as wife and mother, but felt she was missing something. “I couldn’t just stay at home and change diapers,” she says. She wanted more. Daring to be different, the young mother with five children in tow began a business of her own.
High fashion had always been an integral part of Gloria’s life, so it was only natural for her to be drawn toward working with clothing. Her love of designer styles and the need to develop a business without monetary investment inspired the creation of Act II.
Act II began modestly, operating literally from the front porch of Gloria’s Kansas City home. Trusting her integrity and her promise of confidentiality, some of the Kansas City area’s best dressed women placed their gently used designer clothing in Gloria’s hands to be sold. Open by appointment only, Gloria was able to share her flair for fashion and style with other women while building her business.
When the family moved to a bigger house, Act II moved too, operating from a carriage house. The business continued to grow, attracting consignors and buyers from both Missouri and Kansas. It quickly became apparent that Gloria needed to expand and relocate. When neighbors complained about a business operating in a residential area, Gloria received a visit from the police. Soon after, Act II opened as a full service resale boutique.
As Act II grew, Gloria was able to open a men’s
designer resale store. She also began selling new designer and high-end clothing
and accessories from store overstocks.
Five decades later, the Act II tradition thrives.
Consignors throughout the US continue to trust Gloria’s integrity and ability to
give their no longer worn designer clothing and high-end fashion items a new
life in someone else’s closet. And, of course, Act II shoppers love the
opportunity to purchase unique designer outfits at a savings of 50 – 80% off of
retail
